Cambria Bathroom Remodeling: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide

Cambria bathroom remodeling in San Francisco typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, depending on how much of the room you’re changing and which Cambria design you choose. We keep Cambria design templates in our showroom and can match a torn shower wall, a chipped vanity top, or a dated counter to a current Cambria quartz slab without guessing.

The way most San Francisco homeowners find us is a failed or failing piece: a Cambria counter that’s cracked near the sink bowl, a shower bench that’s delaminating, or a vanity top that outlived the cabinet underneath it. The room still works. The part doesn’t. You don’t need a new bathroom. You need the right Cambria surface, measured correctly, cut cleanly, and installed without turning the upstairs hallway into a dust storm.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria makes one core product line: non-porous, stain-resistant quartz surfacing. What changes between “models” is the design name, the slab thickness, and the profile of the edge. That’s where San Francisco remodels get complicated if you’re trying to match a piece rather than replace the whole run.

Cambria slabs come in two thicknesses: 1 cm and 2 cm, with 3 cm available on many designs through custom order. If your existing vanity top was cut from a 2 cm slab with a laminated edge and you replace only the top, the new piece has to match both the design number and the fabrication spec or the seam lines will read wrong in morning light. Cambria design names like Brittanicca, Torquay, and Portrush are still active, but several older designs have been retired, which matters when you’re patching one section instead of replacing a whole counter. We steer most San Francisco families toward a full replacement of the affected surface rather than a patch, because the retired-design issue is real and a mismatched slab is a permanent reminder of the original problem.

Elmstead Remodeling San Francisco is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Cambria. We order through Cambria’s certified fabrication network, which keeps the Cambria warranty intact on the slab itself. Our workmanship warranty sits on top of that.

Signs Your Cambria Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • A crack running from the faucet hole to the sink rim. This is the most common failure we see in older San Francisco bathrooms with under-mounted sinks. The thin bridge of quartz between the faucet drill points and the sink cutout gives out first, usually after a decade of someone leaning on the counter while cleaning the mirror.
  • Chipped edges along the counter profile. Cambria is hard, but a dropped shampoo bottle can knock a crescent chip off a 1 cm edge. The chip itself is cosmetic, but water gets into the laminate line and swells the edge over time.
  • The shower bench or curb is pulling away from the wall. Quartz doesn’t fail on its own in a shower. The substrate behind it moves in San Francisco’s damp-plus-old-house conditions, and the Cambria piece shifts with it. What looks like a Cambria problem is usually a framing or waterproofing problem underneath.
  • Visible staining where the caulk line was supposed to be. Cambria is non-porous, which means a stain on the surface is usually residue, but a dark line at the backsplash joint means the caulk failed and San Francisco bathroom mildew moved in behind the bead.
  • The vanity top is fine, but the cabinet doors are swelling and the drawers won’t close. We see this constantly in homes from the Sunset District to Noe Valley: a Cambria top sitting on a particleboard cabinet that’s been breathing shower steam for twenty years. The stone is fine. The box underneath is done.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

A full Cambria bathroom remodel in San Francisco runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed. A smaller job where we’re keeping the existing cabinet and replacing the vanity top, backsplash, and faucet typically lands between $6,000 and $14,000, depending on the Cambria design and whether the top needs custom templating around an unusual sink.

What moves the number in San Francisco specifically: the age of the building’s plumbing, whether the subfloor needs leveling (common in pre-1940 homes), and the slab design you pick. Cambria prices its designs in tiers, so a smaller slab of a higher-tier design can cost more than a larger slab of an entry design.

Every Elmstead Remodeling San Francisco estimate is written. The price includes the slab, fabrication, edge profile, the faucet or fixture if we’re supplying it, demolition, disposal, and the clean-up. You get the number before we start, and it doesn’t move once the crew walks in unless you add something to the scope. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right after the job is complete, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

Cambria fabrication is not a DIY process. The slab is cut on a water-jet or CNC machine in a certified shop, and the seams are joined with a color-matched epoxy that takes practice to get flat. A homeowner can pull a toilet or peel old caulk. They shouldn’t template a quartz top with a cardboard stencil and a jigsaw, because quartz dust is silica dust and the cut won’t be clean no matter how careful the hands.

What you can safely do before calling us: take photos of the failed area with a tape measure in the frame, find the original design name (sometimes written on the underside of the slab or in the builder’s original finish schedule), and clear the counter so our estimator can template without moving your toothbrush holder. Then call (831) 480-4497. We’ll match the design, price it in writing, and schedule the work around nap hours if there’s a small child in the house.
