Atlas Fence Installation: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide

Atlas fence installation in San Francisco typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a full replacement, and we quote that price in writing before any work starts. Most owners reach this page because a gate is sagging, a post has started to lean after a winter storm, or the fence was installed years ago and the bottom rails are no longer holding fasteners. We stock Atlas-compatible hardware and can usually get the line-item quote to you the same week you call.

We are an independent service provider in San Francisco, not a division of Atlas. That matters because we’ll happily install any Atlas fence configuration while recommending the exact post depth, hardware grade, and gate reinforcement your San Francisco lot actually needs.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas builds three fence lines we see regularly across San Francisco: the Classic chain-link series, the Estate ornamental aluminum line, and the Composite privacy panel system. Each uses different post diameters and gate hinge patterns, and they are not interchangeable. If you have an older Atlas Estate panel from before 2012, the top rail channel is 1 3/8 inches; newer panels use a 1 5/8-inch channel. Mixing hardware across those sizes is the most common compatibility mistake we correct on existing fences.

Locating the part label helps. Atlas stamps a small aluminum plate on the inside of most gates, usually near the bottom hinge. If the plate is faded or gone, measure the outside diameter of the fence post at eye level and check whether the pickets are flat-faced or ribbed. When OEM parts are still available, we order them directly. When an Atlas part is discontinued, we use quality aftermarket equivalents matched to the same gauge and coating spec, and we tell you exactly what we’re doing before we do it. We also keep common Atlas hinge sets, latch assemblies, and post caps on the truck for installs around San Francisco, and we’re familiar with the brands some of our other clients bring up: KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for indoor work, though fence hardware stays Atlas-specific.

Signs Your Atlas Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags on the ground or won’t latch. The top hinge has pulled loose from the post or the post itself has moved. In San Francisco’s fog-damp air, the wood or composite post sleeve can swell and compress faster than inland.
  • Posts lean after rain. The original installer set posts shallower than the 24 to 30 inches needed for San Francisco’s clay-heavy, shifting soils. A leaning post usually means the footing failed, not just the post.
  • Bottom rail pulls free of the pickets. Galvanized fasteners eventually corrode near ground level where irrigation spray and fog moisture sit. This shows up gradually, then all at once.
  • Rust blooming at hinge points. Salt air from the Pacific accelerates oxidation on uncoated hardware. Once the hinge pin binds, the gate starts twisting the frame every time it opens.
  • Wind rattle you can hear from inside the house. Loose panel clips or worn tension bands let the fence flex in San Francisco’s afternoon wind, which eventually cracks the connections completely.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Atlas fence installation in San Francisco runs $4,130 to $10,620 depending on linear footage, fence height, the Atlas product line, gate count, and whether we’re removing old concrete footings. That price includes the written quote, all Atlas-compatible materials and fasteners, haul-away of the old fence, and a photo of the clean-up before our crew leaves. We do not add change orders once work starts unless you ask for something different.

Every installation is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right after the job is complete, we make it right. That promise follows the fence for a year, and it’s in writing on every project we take on in San Francisco.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: whether the gate is hanging square, whether screws are still biting into the post, and whether the latch pin lines up with the catch. Spraying hinges with a lithium-based lubricant once a year is reasonable maintenance. What we’d caution against is pulling a leaning post back straight with a come-along, digging out an old concrete footing by hand, or re-tensioning a chain-link fence under load. Fence wire and rails hold real tension, and when it releases suddenly, it can break fingers or send a post end toward a face.

If the post is leaning or the gate frame is twisted, that’s a footing or geometry problem, not a hardware swap. Call (831) 480-4497 and we’ll come out, measure what’s there, and write you a price.
