Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Mr-Glass-compatible driveway and paver replacement parts across San Francisco, with typical installed pricing running $8260 – $21240 for full paver driveway work and $295 – $825 for driveway sealing. Most owners discover a failed paver or driveway section the same way: a paver shifts underfoot after winter rain, a low spot collects water near the garage apron, or the sand joints between pavers wash out and weeds come through. The good news is that if the base layer is still sound, we can usually match, reset, and seal the affected area without tearing out the whole driveway. Graham Stein and our San Francisco crew keep common Mr-Glass paver profiles on the truck, so the first visit is often the only visit.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

Mr-Glass driveway and paver systems generally fall into two compatibility lines: the interlocking concrete paver series (commonly 60mm and 80mm thicknesses for vehicular use) and the thinner 40mm pedestrian-grade pavers used for walkways and patio borders. The gotcha we see in San Francisco is thickness mismatch: a paver rated for foot traffic installed on a driveway will crack under repeated vehicle weight, and a 60mm paver swapped into a patio designed for 40mm will sit proud of its neighbors. Before we quote a part, we measure the existing paver’s thickness and check the pattern dimensions; Mr-Glass patterns repeat on specific modular sizes, and a paver that is visually similar but off by 10mm will never seat correctly. For OEM replacement, we order direct from Mr-Glass when the line is still current. When a color or profile has been discontinued, we work with two aftermarket manufacturers whose concrete mix and pigment batches we have verified against original Mr-Glass samples over multiple San Francisco projects. We tell you which way we are going and why, and we show you the match before any part goes into the ground.

Elmstead Remodeling San Francisco is an independent contractor and is not affiliated with Mr-Glass. We buy, match, and install their parts; we do not speak for the manufacturer.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Hollow sound under a paver. Tap test with a rubber mallet: a sharp, hollow ring means the sand bed beneath has eroded or settled, usually from water running under the edge. Left alone, that paver will crack under the next heavy load.
  • Sand washing out of the joints after rain. San Francisco winters move a lot of water through paver joints. If the polymeric sand keeps disappearing from the same seams, the base is asking for help, not just a refill.
  • Low spots holding water for more than an hour after rain. Standing water on a paver driveway signals base settlement. In San Francisco, where clay soil heaves seasonally, this is the most common failure pattern we repair.
  • Chipped or cracked corners on multiple pavers. One cracked corner is a dropped tool. Several in a row mean the pavers are moving against each other under load, and the pattern is no longer locked.
  • Weeds growing through the joints within weeks of weeding. Weeds in the joints usually mean the sand fill is gone and moisture is getting under the pavers. The weeds are the symptom, not the problem.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

What you pay in San Francisco depends on how much of the base is still doing its job. A localized repair to a settled paver section typically falls between $8260 and $21240 for a full driveway restoration, while partial reset and re-sanding of a patio runs $4130 – $12980. Driveway sealing as a maintenance step is $295 – $825, and full driveway replacement runs $5900 – $16520 depending on square footage, access, and whether we are matching an existing pattern. Every quote is a written line-item price before any work starts. No number moves once the crew arrives. We name the paver brand and thickness, the base material, the sand type, the sealing product, and the labor. You will see the dollar figure next to each line.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things you can safely check without touching a tool: first, measure the thickness of a loose paver and confirm it matches the surrounding pavers. Second, note where water pools after rain and mark those spots with chalk. What we do not recommend is pulling pavers and filling with bagged sand from the hardware store. Paving sand and bedding sand are different materials, and an inexperienced fill will settle again within one wet season. For anything involving base compaction, edge restraints, or matching a discontinued pattern, call us at (831) 480-4497. We have the compaction equipment, the right sand, and the sample library to get the match right the first time.
