Dvele Kitchen Remodeling: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide

Dvele kitchen remodeling in San Francisco typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed, depending on how much of the kitchen we’re replacing and whether we’re pulling cabinets, counters, or both. Most Dvele owners call us when a cabinet face has delaminated from coastal moisture, a drawer slide has given out, or the factory finish has worn through in high-touch zones. We stock compatible hardware and trim for the most common Dvele kitchen configurations, and we can usually match dimensions for custom replacements within a few days of measuring.

Because Dvele builds prefabricated, panelized homes, the kitchen components are often tighter-tolerance than traditional stick-built cabinetry. That’s good for fit and finish, but it also means a replacement part has to match the original sizing almost exactly. A standard off-the-shelf drawer box from a home center won’t slide into a Dvele cabinet the way the original did. We measure every opening, every hinge bore, and every drawer rail before we order anything.

Which Dvele Models This Applies To

Dvele’s kitchen cabinetry and millwork are not all identical. The company has produced homes in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area under several model lines and custom builds, and the kitchen parts vary by which year the home was built and which cabinet series the original buyer selected. Some Dvele homes use European-style frameless cabinets with concealed hinges and soft-close slides. Others use a face-frame style that accepts different hinge geometry. You can usually identify what you have by opening a cabinet door and looking for the hinge brand stamp, then checking the inside of a drawer box for a printed label or dimensional code.

As an independent remodeling contractor, we’re not affiliated with Dvele, but we’ve worked on enough of these kitchens in San Francisco to know the common compatibility gotchas. The most frequent issue we see is a drawer slide that’s been replaced with a generic unit that’s 2 to 4 millimeters off, which causes the drawer to catch or fall out of alignment within a few months. When we spec parts, we name the brand: Blum, Salice, and Grass slides all appear in Dvele kitchens we’ve opened up. We match the slide to what’s already there rather than asking you to live with a retrofit that works “well enough.”

Signs Your Dvele Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer faces that no longer sit flush. The soft-close mechanism inside a Dvele drawer slide wears down over years of daily use, and once the catch fails, the drawer drifts open or doesn’t pull closed the last half inch. The fix is usually a slide replacement, not a whole new drawer box.
  • Hinges that creak, bind, or let the door drop. In San Francisco’s fog-heavy neighborhoods like the Sunset and Richmond, hinges take on more ambient moisture than they would inland, and the factory lubricant breaks down sooner. If adjusting the hinge screw doesn’t fix the sag, the hinge itself has likely ovaled out at the pivot point.
  • Veneer peeling at the bottom edge of base cabinets. This is the one we see most often near a dishwasher or a sink. A small leak, steam from the dishwasher vent, or repeated floor mopping lifts the edge of the cabinet veneer. Dvele’s tight panel construction means water can’t always escape the way it does in a stick-built cab box, so the laminate separates.
  • Soft-close doors that slam instead. The little damper piston inside the hinge has a lifespan measured in tens of thousands of cycles, not forever. When it goes, the door still closes, but it closes like a rental apartment cabinet. That’s the part telling you it’s done.
  • Counter seams that open up near the range or sink. Dvele kitchens often run quartz or solid-surface counters in long spans, and if the cabinet below settles even slightly, the seam opens. Not a foundation problem, usually. More often it’s a cabinet leg or base that’s shifted and needs shimming before the seam gets re-set.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

A full Dvele kitchen remodel in San Francisco lands between $16,520 and $53,100. That’s the range for tearing out and replacing all cabinets, counters, backsplash, and often the island, with new fixtures tied in. Smaller jobs cost less: a cabinet installation alone runs $4,720 to $15,340, countertops run $2,360 to $7,670, and a backsplash runs $945 to $2,950. If you’re only replacing a handful of failed Dvele parts like slides, hinges, and drawer faces, you’re usually looking at a fraction of that, often under $2,000 for a service visit with parts, depending on how many we’re swapping.

What moves the price in San Francisco? Tear-out conditions, whether the original Dvele cabinets were scribed to the wall (which complicates removal), how much of the old material needs to be hauled away, and whether we’re reusing the existing plumbing and appliance locations or moving them. Every project gets a written price before we start, line items included, and the crew brings shoe covers and drop cloths on day one. The 365-Day Done Right Promise rides on every job, so if a hinge we installed starts misbehaving ten months later, we come back and fix it.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look at the hinge stamps inside your doors to identify the brand, measure a drawer box height and depth, and take note of whether a slide says “Blum” or “Grass” on the rail. That information helps us have the right parts on the truck before we arrive. What you shouldn’t do is start drilling new hinge holes into a Dvele cabinet face without a jig, or try to force a generic slide into a frameless cabinet root. The panel material is dense and unforgiving, and a mis-drilled hole can’t be un-drilled.

For parts that just need matching and swapping, we can usually handle it in one visit. For bigger kitchen remodels in San Francisco, Graham Stein walks the job himself before any number gets written. Tell me what the room needs to do, and we’ll figure out the rest from there. Call (831) 480-4497 and we’ll talk it through.
