ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide
A full ActiveYards kitchen remodel in San Francisco typically runs between $16,520 and $53,100, and most complete renovations take three to seven weeks depending on cabinet lead times and the scope of work involved. Elmstead Remodeling San Francisco installs ActiveYards-compatible cabinetry and works with the brand’s sizing and hardware specifications, so you’re not starting from scratch when we walk the job. Most owners reach out when drawer slides have worn loose, a cabinet face has delaminated from years of Bay Area humidity swings, or they’ve simply outgrown a layout that worked when the house was first purchased.

And before we go further: if a cabinet hinge is popping, a drawer is dragging, or a door has split near the hinge cup, don’t force it open. Forcing a damaged cabinet door can tear the hinge from the box, turning a $30 replacement part into a full cabinet re-face. We’d rather tell you that on this page than after the fact.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards produces kitchen cabinetry across a few distinct series lines – most commonly the Shaker, Slab, and Raised Panel configurations – and the parts compatibility depends heavily on which series your kitchen was built with. The hinge bore pattern, drawer box construction, and face frame or frameless mounting all shift between series, so matching a replacement hinge or glide to the wrong cabinet means the door never sits flush.
The fastest way to identify your ActiveYards kitchen line is to check the inside of the sink base cabinet door or the back panel of a drawer box. ActiveYards stamps a manufacturing code and series identifier on most cabinet boxes produced after 2012. If the label is gone, measure the distance between hinge screw centers: frameless ActiveYards cabinets typically run a 35mm cup diameter with 42mm or 48mm screw spacing, while face-frame lines use a 1/2-inch overlay with a smaller cup. Getting that measurement right before ordering saves a return trip.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for drawer glides and hinges, quality aftermarket parts from Blum, Grass, or Salice often match or exceed the original ActiveYards hardware for 20 to 40 percent less. For cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and matching color paneling, we always recommend going back to ActiveYards OEM. The finish chemistry and wood grain matching on third-party replacement doors never quite lines up under San Francisco’s morning light, and you’ll notice it every time you walk into the room.

Signs Your ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer glides grinding or sticking. ActiveYards drawer boxes run on either epoxy-coated steel or soft-close ball-bearing glides, and San Francisco’s salty air near the Sunset or Richmond accelerates wear on the steel track coating. The grinding you hear is metal on metal, and it only gets worse until the glide seizes.
- Cabinet doors sagging or not closing square. The hinge plate losing its grip on the cabinet box is the usual culprit – repeated opening torque loosens the screws over years, even on soft-close hinges. You’ll see the door drop a quarter inch and wedge against the adjacent door.
- Drawer boxes separating at the dovetail joints. ActiveYards builds most of its stock lines with dovetailed hardwood drawer boxes, but constant moisture from dishwashers and sinks can swell the joint and crack the corner over time. Once a corner separates, the drawer flexes every time you open it.
- Cabinet face or end panel delaminating near the sink or dishwasher. The thermofoil or laminate wrap pulls away from the MDF core when repeated steam exposure breaks the adhesive bond. You’ll see bubbling along the bottom edge first.
- Soft-close pistons no longer catching. ActiveYards soft-close mechanisms use a small hydraulic piston that wears out after roughly 15,000 cycles. When it stops engaging, the door slams – and that slamming further loosens the hinge plates.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For San Francisco ActiveYards kitchen work, here’s where your money goes when we price the job. These are installed prices, written out before any work starts, and they stay that way:
- Full kitchen remodel with ActiveYards cabinetry: $16,520 to $53,100
- Cabinet installation (long wall + island if applicable): $4,720 to $15,340
- Countertop installation (Cambria, Silestone, or Caesarstone): $2,360 to $7,670
- Backsplash installation: $945 to $2,950
- Kitchen island installation: $3,540 to $11,800
The range on a full ActiveYards remodel comes down to cabinet count, whether you’re pulling up to the ceiling or leaving a soffit, countertop material thickness, and whether the electrical or plumbing is moving. Every price we give includes the drop cloths, the shoe covers, the cleanup photo before the crew leaves, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise on the finished work. You’ll also see a written line-item breakdown before we touch anything, so the final invoice matches the original price.

DIY or Call Us?
Some ActiveYards parts are genuinely DIY-friendly: swapping a soft-close piston, tightening a hinge plate, or replacing a drawer pull takes minutes with a Phillips screwdriver. If the drawer glide is shot, you can pull the drawer box and swap the glide in an afternoon if you match the brand and extension length. We’ll never tell you not to try a simple fix.
The line we draw is at cabinet box damage, hinge cup tear-outs, or any replacement that requires matching a finished face panel. That work involves an engine hoist’s worth of patience, a boring jig set to the ActiveYards cup pattern, and finish matching that most hardware-store repair kits don’t cover. If you’re staring at a cabinet door that’s split at the hinge or a drawer box that’s separated at the corner, call us at (831) 480-4497 and we’ll walk you through what it’ll take. Graham Stein handles those calls personally more days than not.
FAQs

ActiveYards cabinetry typically delivers 15 to 20 years of daily-use life in San Francisco’s climate, with hardware needing a hinge or glide swap every 7 to 10 years when the cabinets sit near a dishwasher or range. Coastal fog in the Sunset and Richmond neighborhoods accelerates finish wear on the bottom edges, so sealing those areas early extends the life. Call (831) 480-4497 if you’d like us to look at your specific setup.
A hinge cup tear-out or a split at the stile can usually be repaired with a Dutchman patch and a re-bore, and we’ve done that repair many times on ActiveYards doors where the finish is still intact. If the finish has delaminated or the core is swollen, replacement is the only path that leaves the kitchen looking right. We’ll tell you straight which one you’re facing when we see the door.
Replacing hinges, glides, and soft-close pistons on a standard 10-cabinet ActiveYards kitchen takes one of our technicians about four to six hours, and we can usually do it in a single visit. Replacing cabinet doors or drawer fronts takes longer because the ActiveYards finish color has to be matched and the parts ordered from the manufacturer. Call (831) 480-4497 and we’ll give you a straight time estimate for what you need.
We stock common Blum and Grass soft-close hinges, 18-inch and 21-inch drawer glides, and ActiveYards-compatible shelf clips on our service vehicles for same-visit replacements when the cabinet series and bore pattern match. For ActiveYards OEM doors, panels, and drawer boxes, we order directly from the manufacturer and typically see delivery to San Francisco within two to three weeks. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone lines if you have mixed brands in the kitchen.
If you’ve got an ActiveYards kitchen that’s showing its age – or a single drawer that’s been annoying you for two years – call (831) 480-4497. We’ll ask what the room needs to do, and as Graham says, we’ll figure out the rest from there.
