Tamko Kitchen Remodeling: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide
If you’re reading this, you’ve likely got a Tamko product in your kitchen that’s showing its age or has given out entirely, and you want to know what it costs to fix it right in San Francisco. We stock and install Tamko-compatible kitchen remodeling materials and parts, with full kitchen projects running $16,520 to $53,100 depending on scope. Most owners discover a failed Tamko component the hard way: a drawer front that no longer sits flush, a laminate surface that has bubbled from steam exposure, or a cabinet hinge that has stripped out of its bore after years of daily use.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s kitchen product lines span several series, and the compatibility question is the first thing we resolve on a job walk. The names you’ll want to look for are typically printed on a sticker inside the cabinet door frame or on the underside of the countertop overhang. If the sticker is gone, we measure the bore spacing on hinges, the thickness of the laminate edge, and the depth of the cabinet box against the original spec charts we keep in the truck.
The OEM-versus-aftermarket decision matters for Tamko specifically because their laminate edge profiles changed between production runs. An aftermarket edge band that is off by a millimeter will peel within a season in San Francisco’s damp, salty air. We default to OEM parts when the repair is visible, and we will tell you honestly when a quality aftermarket equivalent will wear the same for less money. One compatibility gotcha we see often: Tamko’s 2012-and-later drawer slides use a 45-millimeter mounting width, but the pre-2012 boxes were drilled at 42 millimeters. If you order the newer part for an older box, the slide will bind.
We are an independent contractor in San Francisco, not affiliated with Tamko, which means we can match parts from Tamko plus compatible hardware from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone without being tied to a single catalog.

Signs Your Tamko Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer fronts that no longer sit flush or that sag when empty. The original slide rails have worn their ball bearings flat, and the drawer is now riding on the track itself. This is the single most common Tamko failure we see in San Francisco kitchens, especially in homes near the ocean where salt air accelerates metal fatigue.
- Laminate edge banding that is peeling in a straight line along one edge. Steam from a dishwasher or an adjacent cooktop has broken the adhesive bond. Once the edge lifts, moisture gets behind the band and the particleboard core starts to swell.
- Hinges that have stripped out of the cabinet face and keep loosening. The original bore was drilled for a 35-millimeter cup hinge, and repeated tightening has wallowed out the hole. Wood filler and re-tightening buys a few months, not a fix.
- A countertop joint that has opened and now catches crumbs or water. The original joint was sealed with a color-matched filler that has dried and shrunk over time. In San Francisco’s temperature swings between foggy mornings and warm afternoons, that filler hardens and cracks faster than it would inland.
- Soft-close dampers that slam or no longer catch at all. The internal piston seal has failed, and the damper is now just a dead cylinder. You’ll hear it as a sharp bang on the last inch of drawer travel.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In San Francisco, a full kitchen remodel with Tamko-compatible materials runs $16,520 to $53,100. If you’re addressing a specific failed part rather than a whole kitchen, here are the numbers we quote most often:
- Cabinet installation (refacing or replacing failed boxes): $4,720 – $15,340
- Countertop installation (including Tamko-compatible laminate or an upgrade): $2,360 – $7,670
- Backsplash installation: $945 – $2,950
- Kitchen island installation: $3,540 – $11,800
Every quote is written before any work starts, and the number on that sheet is the number you pay. No change orders, no surprises when the crew is already in your kitchen. We include shoe covers, drop cloths, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave, every time.

DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things an owner can safely check before calling. Confirm the model number on the sticker inside the cabinet frame. Measure the hinge bore diameter with a tape measure, not a guess. And take a photo of the failed part from two angles, because it genuinely helps us bring the right replacement on the first trip. What we’d rather you not do is force a stripped hinge back into a wallowed-out bore, or try to re-glue a peeling edge band with construction adhesive. The first usually splits the cabinet face; the second leaves a bulky, visible repair line.
If the failed part is a soft-close mechanism, the internal spring is under tension and can launch small parts if pried open. Let us handle that one. Call (831) 480-4497 and Graham or one of our technicians will walk you through what we need to know before we come out.
FAQs

With normal use, Tamko cabinet boxes and drawer slides last 12 to 18 years in San Francisco homes, though salt air near the Sunset and Richmond Districts can shorten that to 10 to 12 years for metal hardware. Hinges and soft-close dampers are the first to go; the cabinet boxes themselves can last 20 years or more if the edges stay sealed.
Some components, like a loose hinge bore or a minor edge-band lift, can be repaired if caught early and if the underlying substrate is still sound. But a failed soft-close damper or a stripped drawer slide has to be replaced; there’s no meaningful repair for a worn ball bearing or a blown piston seal.
Most single-part replacements, like a drawer slide or a hinge set, take under an hour on site once we have the correct part. A countertop joint re-seal is a two-hour job including prep and cleanup. Full cabinet or countertop replacement runs one to three days depending on scope.
We keep the most commonly failed Tamko-compatible components on our trucks, including 45-millimeter and 42-millimeter drawer slides, 35-millimeter cup hinges, and soft-close dampers. Less common parts are typically sourced within two business days from our local suppliers. Call (831) 480-4497 with your model number and we’ll confirm availability before scheduling.
