ViewLux Bathroom Remodeling: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide
ViewLux bathroom remodeling in San Francisco typically runs $10,620 – $33,040 depending on scope, and our truck carries the wear items most likely to sideline a ViewLux bathroom: thermostatic cartridges, diverter stems, supply hoses, and the mounting hardware that holds ViewLux panels and glass. That installed range assumes a licensed crew handles the tear-out, waterproofing, and finish work, not a series of weekend patches. Most ViewLux owners call us after a slow drip becomes a steady one, or after a shower door starts dragging on its track and the adjustment screws are already stripped.

We are an independent remodeling contractor serving San Francisco neighborhoods from the Sunset District to Noe Valley. We’re not affiliated with ViewLux, but we work with their product lines regularly and know where the failure points are before we open the wall.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux has shifted its hardware platforms a few times over the years, and that matters more than most owners realize. The Original Series, the Select Series, and the current Tempered Curve line share a brand name but not always a cartridge size, a drain assembly, or a hinge spread. A replacement handle for one series will bind on another. Before you order anything online, look for the small aluminum ID tag on the inside of the shower door frame or under the cabinet side panel. The series name is stamped there, along with a date code that tells us whether the part was built to the older 35mm cartridge spec or the newer 40mm one.
For the older Original Series, certain OEM trim kits are still available but getting scarce, and the lead time from ViewLux’s west coast distribution center can stretch past three weeks. In those cases we’ll talk through a quality aftermarket equivalent from Grohe or Moen if the valve body can accept it. For the Tempered Curve line, we generally recommend staying OEM on glass and seals, because the radius of the curve is specific enough that aftermarket sweeps rarely seat correctly and end up leaking at the bottom corners. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, which often show up alongside ViewLux in a remodeled San Francisco bathroom.

Signs Your ViewLux Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- You have to turn the handle further each week to get the same water temperature. That is the thermostatic cartridge losing its wax element travel. It works until it doesn’t, and then you get a cold shower on a Tuesday morning.
- Water seeps out under the shower door even after you replace the sweep. The sweep was never the problem. The door has drifted out of square, usually because the upper hinge bracket is pulling away from a stud that was never reinforced behind the tile.
- The drain cover spins instead of loosening. ViewLux drain covers thread into a brass insert that corrodes faster in San Francisco’s soft water than ViewLux’s own literature suggests. If the insert is gone, the drain basket has to come out with it.
- The glass panel rattles when you close the vanity drawer. That is a sign the panel’s rubber isolators have hardened and cracked. Left alone, the glass starts bearing directly on the metal clamps, and tempered glass under point load is unforgiving.
- Grout keeps darkening in the same spot no matter how often you scrub it. The waterproofing membrane behind the tile has failed at a seam. Re-grouting will hide it for a month. It will come back.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A focused ViewLux repair, like swapping a cartridge and replacing a shower sweep, usually lands between $945 and $3,540 installed in San Francisco. A full bathroom remodel that includes a new ViewLux-compatible enclosure, waterproofing, and finishes runs $10,620 – $33,040. The spread comes down to whether we’re working within the existing footprint and keeping the drain location, or moving plumbing, replacing subfloor, and redoing the waterproofing from the studs out.

DIY or Call Us?
You can do a few things yourself without hurting anything: check the ID tag so you know which series you own, look for a visible leak at the valve body, and tighten a loose handle set screw with a hex key. That’s where the safe owner work ends. Anything involving the thermostatic cartridge, the valve body behind the wall, or the glass panel hardware is worth calling a professional. Tempered glass under a stressed clamp can shatter without warning, and a valve body pulled out wrong can turn a $400 repair into a flooded wall cavity.
If you’re in San Francisco and you’ve got a ViewLux part that isn’t behaving, call (831) 480-4497. We’ll ask a few questions about the symptoms, look up the series, and give you a straight answer about what it will cost before you commit to anything.
FAQs

Most ViewLux cartridges and seals last 8 – 12 years in San Francisco before they start showing wear. The city’s soft water helps reduce mineral buildup, but the older buildings in the Sunset and Richmond often have more sediment in the lines, which shortens cartridge life compared to newer construction.
Sometimes, but not usually. A thermostatic cartridge can occasionally be cleaned and reinstalled if it’s just sediment, but once the wax element or the O-rings have hardened, repair isn’t realistic. We’ll tell you which one you have before we quote it.
Most single-part replacements are done in a half day. A full ViewLux enclosure or shower replacement takes one to two days depending on whether the surrounding tile and waterproofing need work.
We keep the common wear parts on the truck when we’re working a ViewLux job in San Francisco: cartridges, diverters, hinges, and sweeps. For rarer series-specific trim, we order directly from ViewLux’s distribution network and usually have it within a week. Call (831) 480-4497 and we’ll check availability for your exact series.
